Choose the Right Office
Directing a request to the right custodian prevents a booking record, court record, and city police report from being confused with each other.
- For a sheriff-created record, call the Sheriff’s Office and ask for the records custodian.
- For an item held after regional intake, follow WVDCR’s current facility or records-routing instructions.
- For a Point Pleasant, New Haven, or Mason police report, contact the municipal police agency that handled the incident.
- For a court disposition or copy, use the magistrate or circuit clerk.
- For a federal custody question, use the official BOP or ICE locator only when an agency or court source indicates that custody.
For emergencies, call 911. A public-record request should identify the agency, date range, record type, and any booking or case number, then ask for segregable nonexempt material and the basis for any denial.
